  President Bola Tinubu has appointed Abba Abubakar Aliyu as the substantive Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency, REA. The appointment, effective from January 23, 2025, is for an initial term of four years. Aliyu has been acting as the agency’s managing director since March 2024 until his appointment. He has over 20 years of experience in energy and organisational development in the private and public sectors.  He has played key leadership roles in the on-grid and off-grid power sectors, as well as the water resources and transportation sectors of Nigeria’s economy. No fewer than four soldiers are feared dead while others suffered injuries after a suspected drunk driver rammed into them in Lagos State. The soldiers attached to the Myoung Barracks in the Morocco area of Shomolu, Lagos were reportedly having their monthly road jogging on Friday morning when the incident happened. Apart from the four soldiers who lost their lives, others were said to have sustained injuries.

The Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB), has postponed the registration for the 2025 Unified Ter t iary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to Monday, February 3, 2025, from the earlier date of Friday, January 31, 2025. The rescheduling of the commencement of the registration was disclosed in a statement on Friday. According to the statement, the development was necessary to allow the Board to implement essential adjustments to its registration templates. “These adjustments come in light of the recent suspension of certain law programmes at selected universities, as submitted to the Board by the Council for Legal Education. “Additionally, the Board discovered that some Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres had used deceptive facilities to gain approval, prompting the need for further scrutiny and corrections by disapproving such centres. “The Board acknowledges the disruption this may cause to candidates and other stakeholders and sincerely apologises for any inconvenience. “The additi...

The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, has announced that corps members will begin receiving a revised monthly allowance of N77,000 starting in February 2025. Speaking on Thursday while addressing the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream II corps members in Katsina, Ahmed revealed that the increment has been incorporated into the 2025 Federal Government budget. He revealed that the increment has been incorporated into the 2025 Federal Government budget.   “This month (January) has already ended, but once the budget is passed. This followed former vice president, Atiku Abubakar's claim that the All Progressives Congress is paying money to destabilize opposition parties. The Labour Party (LP) has denied receiving N50m from the Bola Tinubu-led government. Atiku, while speaking at a national conference on strengthening democracy held in Abuja on Monday, accused the ruling APC of offering N50 million each to some persons to instigate a crisis in the opposition parties. LP in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh denied the claim, saying that the party’s leadership has “never received a dime from any individual, group, organisation or government who are not members of the Labour Party”.

According to reports, the Nigerian music legend claimed that the reality TV Presenter, Mrs Annie Idibia (Wife), did not care for him, especially when he was ill. He accused Annie, of neglecting him when he suffered from kidney failure. “ My wife was more interested in her reality shows, and I went to the hospital alone,” he reportedly said. “How many times did I leave my hospital bed to attend appointments just to provide for the family I love so much?  The Federal Government has stated that Nigerians who were deported from the United States, are welcome back home. The Commission stated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is in charge of such development, adding that FG has already set up an inter-agency committee to handle the matter should Nigerians be deported from the US.“The Government has set up an inter-agency committee, comprising the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, NIDCOM, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and office of the National Security Adviser, NSA, should there be mass deportation of Nigerians from the US .” About 3,690 Nigerians in the United States are faced with deportation as Donald Trump crackdown on illegal immigrants in the country.

  An economic and financial crimes commission (EFCC) operative who was  identified as Mr Sylvanus, was found lifeless on the street of Lagos on today. In a video sighted by News Band Newspaper, passersby who saw him checked his bag and found an EFCC business card, which was with him at the point where he slumped. He was believed to have Slumped while walking on the road. The anti-graft agency is yet to issue an official statement in respect to the development.  Dele Oyewale, the EFCC spokesperson, confirmed the incident to TheCable, adding that “an investigation is ongoing” to unravel the cause of Yange’s death. This is the second time an EFCC operative’s death has been reported in recent times. On January 19, the agency said Aminu Salisu, an assistant superintendent officer (ASO), was killed in Anambra.
